I read a news story about a billboard appearing in Washington state that asks the question: "Should people collecting entitlements be allowed to vote."
This kind of right-wing bullshit really pisses me off. Really, what this question is asking is " Should people taking advantage of their rights as American citizens be allowed to vote if I feel they will vote against my political ideology?" My return question is: "Should people who want to stop their fellow American citizens from voting be allowed to vote?" I will even go so far as to ask: "Should those who seek to keep their fellow Americans from an opposing political ideology from voting even be allowed citizenship?"
Whether you right-wing shitbags like it or not, the Constitution guarantees equal rights to ALL American citizens and it defines American citizens as 1) Those who are born within the borders of the United States, regardless of whether their parents are citizens. 2) Those who pass the qualifications of naturalization and are granted citizenship.
If you don't like it, too fucking bad for you. Perhaps AMERICANS should decide whether you intolerant assholes should even be allowed to continue to live in this country where freedom and equality are guaranteed.

There's an old American tradition of distrusting "dependent" people. Two hundred years ago, you were considered dependent if you didn't own productive land, even if you had a job. It was widely assumed that your employer could dictate how you voted by making your job depend on it. If someone today wants to say dependence disqualifies someone from voting, that should start a really interesting discussion about how dependent most of us are.
